Theme:       How can you believe that there will be a commuter train coming through town today to take us to our destination? Sure the train track is there, and the station, and there are signs posted all around. And there’s proof all around that it came yesterday, and all the days before that . .  but like what does that prove?
It’s kinda like believing that Jesus is coming back to take us with him, and like, who’s gonna believe that?

Terry and Sandy come on stage, standing apart from Erica

Erica gets down on the floor, ear to the floor, listens, Terry and Sandy watch, somewhat amused, embarrassed, finally Terry goes to Erica, curious

 

Terry:        Uh . . .  excuse me . . .

 

Erica ignores Terry

 

Terry, clears throat:
Uh . . . sir (maam) . . . Excuse me.

 

Erica:        Whaaaaaa . . .

 

Terry:        Likely none’a my business, but . . . mind tellin’ me what you are, like, doin’?

 

Erica:        What does it look like I am doing? (looks around, points)  We are at the train station after all . .!

 

Terry:        Well, yes but . . .

 

Erica:        And the train is due any time . . .

 

Terry:        I know that but . . .

 

Erica, points around:
The signs are all around show that the train should be here . . .

 

Terry:        Sure, but why would you be havin’ your head on the like, . . train track?

 

Erica:        Doncha know what happens when you put your ear on the train tracks?

 

Terry:        Actually no . . . When I was a kid we used to put pennies on the train track just before the train came along. . . . But I can’t say I ever wanted an ear that flat.

 

Erica:        Listen!

 

Terry, confused:      Um . . . listen to like, what?
