The Parable of the Lost Hat

The Parable of the Lost Hat

$10.00 (USD)

A terrible thing has happened! A puppet has lost his . . . hat! And when he findfs it he will have a parade, celebration, invite the whole town to share his joy . . . . Hmmmm, sounds a liitle like a lost sheep story to me! This puppet script bring a story of love and caring, much like the protection a shepherd gives his sheep. A delightful comedy.

Cast: 2 puppets, could have many more puppets as crowd scene. The puppets perform as though there is a large parade passing by in front of the puppet stage. You might have recorded crowd noises at the beginning of the drama.

Set: Puppet stage has a long stick up at one front corner with a garish purple hat on the top.

Props: many, literally “a hundred,” hats of all kinds, shapes and sizes

Sample of script:

Puppet 2 is on stage, Puppet 1 comes on stage through a pile of hats, hats fly all over
1: Hey, woohoo, ooopss! Sorry about that! Knocked your hats over! Hey, listen, I have a question . . . what’s happening here, all these hats all over the place, and all that noise, who are all the people out there? And why do you have that ugly hat up there on the end of the stick?
2: Technically that’s, let’s see . . one . . . two . . .three . . a bunch of questions I think.
1: You are good at math, how about answering my question?
2: Which one?
1: Try all.
2: Let’s see. . . what’s happening is that we are having a parade, all these hats all over the place is my awesome hat collection, the noise is all the wonderful people who are watching the parade, and THAT IS NOT AN UGLY HAT, THAT IS A GORGEOUS HAT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! THAT IS MY SPECIAL BOW-RANGER HAT!
1: Bow-ranger hat huh?
2: The only one of it’s kind in these parts I shall have you know!
1: Nice. I guess. Very purple, isn’t it?
2: The color is “Emperor Rainbow” I shall have you know!
1: Emperor Rainbow huh? Was almost sure it was purple.
2: To the untrained eye perhaps. Those of us who are more hat conscious, we know better.
1: Oooooookkkkkkaayyyyyyy . . . . . Anyhow, what is the reason for the parade?
2: My Emperor Rainbow hat.
1: Uhhhhhhhhh, okay, let me get this straight. The parade is happening because of a purple . . .
2: . . . Emperor Rainbow . . . .
1: . . . right, an Emperor Rainbow hat? Since when do you organize a parade because of a hat?
2: Not just any old hat. This is my hat. And it was lost. Was like to be going crazy with worry cause I had no idea where it was. And now I found it so it’s just natural that we would have a parade to celebrate.
1: I don’t quite get this . . .you lose one hat, not a big deal, seems like. You must have a gazillion hats here, and you worry about this one hat?
2: Have a hundred hats exactly, that is, when my Emperor Rainbow hat is here.
1: I get it, the Emperor Rainbow hat is special, better than all the rest of your hats?
2: Well, duh, of course the Emperor Rainbow hat is special, but every one of my hats is just as special as any other!
