Its A Jungle Out There Sketch4

Its A Jungle Out There Sketch4

$15.00 (USD)

Part 4 of an 8 part drama.
In this segment the women meet their Stretch the (short-necked) giraffe. And Stretch learns that although his short neck seems like a disadvantage, still it can be helpful. We also meet Priscilla Benchley-Ferguson, the BBC London who visits the jungle on assignment.

Details on the complete series (120 minutes):
It is a jungle out there, and a group of women are going on safari. When there they meet up with all kinds of people, (some of whom are really animals . . no, like, they are actually animals). Add a reporter from BBC London and jungle locals and you have . . not sure what you have, but it is fun.
In each of the 8 segments a (new) rendition of the old song, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is used to bring out a theme, or simply to be silly. . . (there is a lot of silly in this script actually).
The point of this drama is that even though it is scary out there in the real world, still God is in control.
Sketch 1 (Opening) sees the planning for the safari going on. (20 minutes)
Sketch 2 is the arrival in the jungle (16 minutes)
Sketch 3 features Molly the gorilla (14 minutes)
Sketch 4 features Stretch (the short-necked) giraffe (15 minutes)
Sketch 5 features Henrietta the dancing hippo (10 minutes)
Sketch 6 features Lucy the leopard (10 minutes)
Sketch 7 features Suzette the (French) lion (10 minutes)
Sketch 8 (Closing) is about leaving the jungle (25 minutes)

This script can be done in 8 separate parts or as one production as a dinner theatre.

Alma: Like don’t try to kiss an anteater.

Monica: Personally I have never found the urge to be overpowering.

Christa: Like how God has prepared all animals to exist in their surroundings.

Ontondra: Like leopards being able to blend in with their surroundings.

Connie: Or horses winning the Kentucky Derby.

everyone turns to look at Connie in disbelief

Monica: You have a real knack for the irrelevant Connie.

there is a commotion, Priscilla rushes on stage holding a microphone, speaks in English accent

Priscilla: I say, where are the chaps from the colonies?

Christa: The chaps from where?

Priscilla: The colonies . . the colonies . . I hear there is a group of chaps just came in from the colonies.

Ontondra: I have no idea what you are talking about.

Priscilla: You really must stop wasting my time. I am . . (pauses, smiles, looks into camera offstage) . . Priscilla Benchley-Ferguson from BBC London don’t you know. . . I must get an interview with the chaps from the colonies. . . Now who is in charge here please?

Priscilla: I say, I say! . . Ontondra! . . A fine name, rings of jungle background, what does it mean, may I ask?

Alma: Her mom heard it on CNN when she was pregnant with Ontondra, . . and the rest, as they say, is history.

Priscilla: CNN you say? . . My superior at the BBC expects our jungle story will make CNN, but we must get cracking on it, that upstart French news network is only a day behind me. . . Now then, where do I find the chaps from the colonies?

Christa: Which colonies are you talking about?

Priscilla: The North American colonies . . whatever they call themselves.

Christa: Well we are from the United States.

Priscilla: Well why didn’t you tell me you were the chaps from the colonies? . . Wasting precious time is what you are doing! . . But whatever, no use crying over spilled Worcestershire sauce I always say.

Alma: I always thought it was crying over spilled milk.

Priscilla: Colonists! . . . Now then, you, (sticks mic in Christa’s face) . . What was your name then . .

Christa, nervous: Christa.

Priscilla: Oh please . . please don’t be one of those one word interviews . .

Connie: Well maybe if you were to ask better questions? . . I had a friend once, name of Felicia Foster-Fredricks, Felicia Foster-Fredricks she was simply an awful question asker, like once she wanted to know whether there was a new baby born in the Bernstein West Memorial Hospital downtown and so she went all over town asking folks if they knew if there was a baby around town, and of course everyone said, “Sure there are lots of babies in town and lots more just out of town on some of the acreages and . .”

Priscilla: Does she ever stop to take a breath? . . Now is there someone here from the colonies who can actually handle an interview?

Christa: Monica, you go ahead.

Priscilla: Fine then Monica, come along, spit spot! . . Now then, I ask the questions, you respond . . It’s not rocket science. . . Shall we give it a go?

Monica: Yes, I guess I am ready. . .

Pricilla: Good then, here we go . .

Priscilla motions to the offstage camera crew

Priscilla: Now then Mitchell, make sure your lighting is right, we want this to be keeper quality . . retakes are such a bore!

I have with me Monica, visiting here in the jungle from the United States of America.
Now then Monica, if you will, whatever brought you to this remote outpost in deepest Africa?

Monica: Well I and my friends from the church wanted to see more of God’s creation and so we . . .

Priscilla, distastefully: Ohhh, you are from a . . . church? . . Regardless, carry on.

Monica: Yes, Montana Lake Assembly of God in Montana Lake, Wisconsin . . .

Alma: Soon to be “Around Montana Lake Assembly of God”.

Priscilla: How absolutely smashing for you! . . May we return to the matter at hand?
Exactly what of . . .ummm . . . God’s . . . creation have you witnessed thus far?

Monica: Well none yet, really close up that is. .

Connie: Don’t forget my maid, Molly.
