Its A Jungle Out There Sketch8

Its A Jungle Out There Sketch8

$16.00 (USD)

Part 8 of an 8 part drama and it is time to go home. In this segment we feature each of the animals as well as each of the ladies.

Details on the complete series (see “Its a Jungle Out There” script)

It is a jungle out there, and a group of women are going on safari. When there they meet up with all kinds of people, (some of whom are really animals . . no, like, they are actually animals). Add a reporter from BBC London and jungle locals and you have . . not sure what you have, but it is fun.
In each of the 8 segments a (new) rendition of the old song, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is used to bring out a theme, or simply to be silly. . . (there is a lot of silly in this script actually).
The point of this drama is that even though it is scary out there in the real world, still God is in control.
Sketch 1 (Opening) sees the planning for the safari going on. (20 minutes)
Sketch 2 is the arrival in the jungle (16 minutes)
Sketch 3 features Molly the gorilla (14 minutes)
Sketch 4 features Stretch (the short-necked) giraffe (15 minutes)
Sketch 5 features Henrietta the dancing hippo (10 minutes)
Sketch 6 features Lucy the leopard (10 minutes)
Sketch 7 features Suzette the (French) lion (10 minutes)
Sketch 8 (Closing) is about leaving the jungle (25 minutes)
This script can be done in 8 separate parts or as one production as a dinner theatre.

actors come onstage talking

Monica: What a gorgeous day again! . . You know I am going to miss these jungle days when I go back home.

Jean: Me too. I guess we have learned firsthand about the lure of the jungle.

Ontondra: Well I can tell you that we are going to miss having you here. The people in the community here have learned so much from you in Bible studies, and in just getting to know you people. You know some people who come here are just looking to get something from their visit. It is refreshing to have guests who are willing to give back.

Becky: I know what you mean Ontondra. I have been in the jungle many times and honestly have never enjoyed and gained from the experience as much as this time.

Connie: Well I was able to teach some of the kids how to roll their eyelids way back.

Alma: And you should have heard how excited the ladies in the village were to know how to power shop at Wal-Mart. . . Which will come in handy if they ever get a Wal-Mart here in the jungle.

Ontondra, laughs: And we will miss the unique contributions of you two as well.

Christa: You seem very quiet Priscilla.
Priscilla: What was that . . errr . . . I guess I was just thinking about what you ladies were talking about . . about being here . . about how you guys all seem so . . real.

Alma: Check us out, we get real-er every day.

Priscilla: Well for me the issue is . . I have been told that I must return to London immediately for a new assignment. . .

Priscilla becomes emotional, wipes away a tear, all the others come close to console her

Christa: I am sorry Priscilla, but all of us will have to be going home.

Priscilla: I know you will, but you will be going home to friends, family, . . like Alma said, people who are real-er than I have ever known! . . Being with you guys has changed me . . . (horrified) . . . Oh my, I have truly changed, I just said “real-er” . . And I am British you know, we never say words like that!

Monica: After being around Alma and Connie the British will never be the same.

Becky: What is your new assignment?

Priscilla, gets emotional again: I am to do a report on the . . “private lives” of some movie and stage stars. And let me tell you, there is nothing more phony than that. . . How am I supposed to handle that kind of a switch after being with . . “real-er” . . folks like you guys?

Christa: I am so sorry Priscilla.

Priscilla: You guys are . . . different . .. somehow.

Connie: Did I ever show you how I can balance an egg on my ear lobe?

Priscilla: Like I said . . different.

Ontondra: Well Priscilla, maybe the difference is we are Christians.

Priscilla: Oh I have been around religious people before . .

Ontondra: I didn’t say “religious people” I said Christians. There is a difference you know.

Priscilla: Something tells me I want what you guys have . .. Some of the religious people that I have known say all the right things in church but when you are with them one on one they are no different from folks who don’t go to church.

Connie: Simply going to church by itself doesn’t make you a different person.

Priscilla: That is very deep Connie, I am impressed!

Monica: Well every once in a while Connie sends out some real good stuff . . (hugs Connie) . . You know we love you Connie!

Priscilla: See that is it right there . . there is genuine love amongst you folks. . . I want that in my life!

Christa: It’s no secret Priscilla. It is God’s love showing through ordinary people like us.

Priscilla: Beautiful ordinary people! . . Something to treasure!

Alma: Perhaps to sing and dance about?

Priscilla: You read my mind Alma!

Priscilla sings and the others join in, all clap through the “a-wim-o-weh”

Song: adaptation of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”

NOTE: Use mp3 file “The Lion Sleeps Tonight (no interlude)” for this song

Wee-de-de-de-de-de-de-de-de-de-de, wee-o-mumbo-weh (X 2)

A-wim-bo-weh, a-wim-bo-weh, a-wim-bo-weh, a-wim-bo-weh (X 4)

Leave the jungle, the quiet jungle, but we don’t leave the same
In the jungle, the quiet jungle, our lives for-ev-er changed

Going home now, to our own homes now, to serve Go-od and man
For the jungle, this mighty jungle, restored our faith a-gain

God protect us, please use and guide us, make us part of your plan
We’d be beacons, of your sweet promise, bless us Lord again

A-wim-bo-weh, a-wim-bo-weh, a-wim-bo-weh, a-wim-bo-weh (X 4)
